Honoring the Legacy of Cherubim & Seraphim Ministers

History of the Cherubim & Seraphim Church

The Cherubim & Seraphim (C&S) Church is a Pentecostal Christian organisation founded in Nigeria in 1925 by Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase, an itinerant evangelist who believed in the efficacy of prayers and the power of healing in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. His evangelical mission was characterised by a great revival — turning people away from idol worship to the worship of the true and living God. Orimolade's uncommon anointing of effective prayers earned him the sobriquet "Baba Aladura".

The story of Pentecostal revival changed with Orimolade's arrival in Lagos on 12th July 1924. Despite his physical limitations, he immediately swung into his divine mandate — preaching, healing the sick, casting out devils and demons, and destroying the works of masqueraders and occultists. His fame spread considerably when he healed Miss Christina Abiodun, who had fallen into a trance during the annual "Corpus Christi" celebration of the Roman Catholic Church on 18th June 1925.

Following this event, the clergy of the local CMS Church prevailed on him to leave their premises. His exit drew a multitude of followers who continued with him in fellowship and evangelism. This fellowship grew in leaps and bounds into a movement — one that needed a name beyond the "Aladura" (prayer group) it was called. It is practically difficult to separate the history of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church from that of its founder, Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase (Ajagunmokadi).
